let's get crafty!

soooo! the bluster of the season is finally among us. well, maybe. clearly global climate change is still trying to "find itself." we had the most beautiful halloween here in northfield, il. sunshine, warmth, fiery leaves, and a stunning array of pumpkins. but those kids, i tell ya! you basically hand them the ideal trick-or-treating conditions, and they wuss out on you. our block typically boast well over 3oo costumed kiddos, but this year, we had a under 200, and i don't think i saw a single impressive costume. far too many store-bought princesses and monsters. when will they learn?

days later, the weather still felt like june, which was great for me and thousands of other patriots, because we had much celebrating to do this week. that's right. yours truly miraculously scored a golden ticket to the big grant park obama festivities, and i have to say, it was well worth the hours of walking and standing. i've never seen such an enthusiastic, cooperative, hopeful crowd. even some of the christian concerts i've attended have been more dangerous than that sea of celebrators. i couldn't believe how much energy was hovering over the space. all the buildings were lit up with american spirit as well; red, white, and blue seemed like something to be proud of for once. when the called his win, i wasn't even paying attention. a friend and i were chatting, but when the crowds went wild, it was clear; history had been made. i've never seen so many cell phones and tears simultaneously go into action. everyone was screaming. everyone was laughing. everyone felt the significance of the moment. and i was there. i saw him come out, give the speech, and wave to a throng of people who haven't lost faith in the ability for good politicians and systemic change. obama. yes!

but now, the temperature has drop about thirty degrees. i've seen itsy bitsy snow flurries, but nothing to dance in quite yet. crafting is in full throttle these days. i've whipped up some new winter duds (mittens, amelia earhart cap, and a sweater). aaand? i'm learning how to quilt! i just made a tiny rail fence pattern and have purchased the fabric necessary to make a full blown quilt. it's nice entering into my mothers world quilting, and it's not as terrifying and utterly confusing as i thought it would be.

otherwise, things here are pretty mellow. no job yet, though i'm applying each day. i'm making plans to move into a place in the city come january. and i've finished my physical therapy, which concludes the official part of my recovery! it took just about three months to go from a collapsed lung, broken pile of rubble to a knitting machine determined to conquer the world.

and there is so much good music out there.

and lots to get warm about.

p.s. how do you like the formatting of this post? pretty craaaazy!
